64 KB FRAM — no separate EEPROM needed
Its program memory is 64 KB of FRAM — ferroelectric RAM that combines non-volatile storage with fast write speeds and low power, eliminating the need for a separate EEPROM for parameter storage. The 2 KB of SRAM handles stack and scratchpad data. This is the part for designs that want unified memory and field-update capability without wearing out Flash sectors.
Peripheral set for metering and display applications
On-chip peripherals include a brown-out reset, DMA controller, LCD driver, POR, PWM, and watchdog timer. The 8-channel 12-bit ADC handles analog inputs without an external converter. With 46 general-purpose I/O lines in the 56-TSSOP package, you have room for a keypad, segment LCD, and a few external sensors.
Lifecycle and sourcing
The base product number MSP430FR68221 covers the family; the I suffix indicates the industrial temperature grade, G the 56-TSSOP package, and R the tape-and-reel shipping medium.
