16 MHz CPUXV2 with 32KB FRAM — what that means for your BOM
The MSP430FR5957IDAR is a 16-bit MCU with MSP430 CPUXV2 core at 16 MHz, 32 KB FRAM, and 1 KB RAM. FRAM writes at bus speed, retains data without battery, and avoids EEPROM endurance limits. Supply range is 1.8 V to 3.6 V; temperature range is −40°C to 85°C.
31 I/O and integrated peripherals — board-level fit
With 31 I/O lines in a 38-TSSOP package, this part packs enough pins for a modest sensor array or a small HMI panel without needing a port expander. The 12-bit ADC with 12 channels captures analog signals from thermocouples, potentiometers, or current shunts directly. Connectivity covers I²C, SPI, and UART — enough for a Modbus RTU slave, an I²C temperature sensor bus, or a debug UART. The internal oscillator saves a crystal on the BOM, though you can still feed an external clock if tighter timing is needed.
