16-bit FRAM MCU for power-conscious industrial and sensing designs
Its program memory is 16 KB of FRAM — a non-volatile memory that combines the fast write speed and low power of SRAM with the data retention of Flash, and it supports nearly unlimited write endurance. This makes it a strong fit for applications that log data frequently, update firmware over the air, or need to keep state across power cycles without an external EEPROM.
FRAM advantage: no wear-leveling overhead, unified memory map
Unlike Flash-based MCUs where writes are slow and endurance is limited to ~10k–100k cycles per sector, FRAM writes at bus speed and endures over 10¹⁵ write cycles. For the MSP430FR5726IRGER, this means the 16 KB FRAM serves as both code and data memory in a single unified space — no separate EEPROM emulation needed. The 1K x 8 RAM handles stack and scratchpad variables.
Package and supply-chain fit
Housed in a 24-VFQFN with exposed pad (4x4 mm body, 24-VQFN supplier package), this is a compact surface-mount package suited for space-constrained PCBs. The 17 I/O lines are enough for a handful of sensors, a small display, and a radio module.
