FRAM-based 16-bit MCU for low-power sensing and control
The MSP430FR2311IPW20 belongs to the MSP430 FRAM family, with 3.75 KB FRAM and 1 KB SRAM.
3.75 KB FRAM — write endurance and non-volatility without the EEPROM tax
FRAM writes at bus speed with no erase cycle overhead, unlike Flash or EEPROM. The 3.75 KB program space is also usable for non-volatile data storage — config parameters, calibration constants, or logging counters — without wearing out the memory. Combined with 1 KB SRAM, the memory budget fits small control loops, state machines, and data-logging firmware that does not exceed a few thousand lines of C.
Active lifecycle — no near-term EOL concern
The part is suitable for both new design-in and ongoing production. For dual-sourcing or supply resilience, the MSP430 FRAM family includes pin-compatible density variants — the base product number MSP430FR2311 identifies this specific memory and peripheral configuration.
20-TSSOP — footprint and layout notes
The 16 I/O lines are accessible on both sides of the body. Decoupling should follow the usual ceramic per supply pin, placed close to the package.
