16 MHz core, 15.5 KB FRAM — the unified-memory advantage
The MSP430FR2033IG48 is a 16-bit MCU from the MSP430™ FRAM family, running at 16 MHz with 15.5 KB of FRAM program memory and 2K x 8 of RAM. FRAM unifies code and data storage in a single non-volatile array — writes are fast (no erase-before-write cycle) and endurance is effectively unlimited for field data logging, eliminating the wear-leveling overhead required with flash.
Peripheral set and I/O for sensor-node control
44 general-purpose I/O lines provide enough headroom for a keypad, small character display, and control logic without external port expanders. Serial connectivity includes I²C, SPI, UART/USART, and IrDA — covering the common sensor and actuator bus interfaces in a typical low-power instrumentation or IoT edge node. On-chip brown-out detect, power-on reset, a PWM timer, and a watchdog timer reduce external supervisory IC count — the BOD holds the core in reset until the supply rail is stable, and the WDT provides independent fault recovery.
Supplied in a 48-TFSOP (0.240", 6.10 mm width) package, also designated as 48-TSSOP in the supplier device package field. The 0.50 mm lead pitch requires a controlled-impedance PCB stack-up for the higher-speed serial lines; the narrow body width (6.10 mm) fits compact board layouts where real estate is constrained.
The part is ROHS3 compliant, meeting the current EU RoHS exemption scope. The base product number is MSP430FR2033; the IG48 suffix denotes the 48-TSSOP package and the industrial temperature range.
