16 MHz CPU with 8.5 KB FRAM — why the memory type matters
Its program memory is 8.5 KB of FRAM — ferroelectric RAM — which combines the non-volatility of Flash with write speeds and endurance closer to SRAM. This means you can treat the firmware store as a data-logging space without worrying about sector-erase cycles or wear-leveling. The 1K x 8 RAM handles stack and variable storage for control loops, sensor fusion, and communication buffers.
It is not rated for under-hood or military extended-temperature environments.
Package and footprint — 48-TSSOP
Housed in a 48-TFSOP (0.240", 6.10 mm width) package, also referred to as 48-TSSOP, this is a surface-mount device with a fine-pitch leadframe. The footprint is shared across several MSP430FR2xxx family members, so a board layout can accommodate multiple density options without a PCB spin. The Tape & Reel shipping format is standard for automated assembly lines.
