The MSP430FR2000IRLLR is a 16-bit MSP430 CPU16 microcontroller clocked at 16 MHz, with 512B of FRAM program memory and 512 x 8 bytes of RAM. The FRAM is non-volatile and writes at bus speed without a page-erase cycle — the firmware update penalty is microseconds, not milliseconds. The industrial temperature grade (-40°C to 85°C) covers unheated outdoor cabinets and factory-floor enclosures without a heater.

12 I/O and serial connectivity in a 3x3 mm VQFN

Twelve general-purpose I/O lines in a 24-VQFN (3x3 mm) package — the pad pitch is 0.5 mm, which routes cleanly on a two-layer board if the ground pad is properly stitched. Serial interfaces include IrDA, SCI, SPI, and UART/USART — enough to talk to a radio module, a sensor bridge, or a host controller over a single protocol.

On-chip supervision — BOR, POR, PWM, WDT

The peripheral set includes brown-out reset (BOR), power-on reset (POR), PWM timer, and watchdog timer (WDT). For a simple sensor node or actuator controller, these on-chip blocks eliminate the need for an external supervisor IC or a separate watchdog — the BOM count stays low.
