MSP430FE423AIPM — 16-bit MCU for energy metering
The Texas Instruments MSP430FE423AIPM is a 16-bit MSP430 MCU clocked at 8.4 MHz, purpose-built for single-phase energy metering and polyphase metering front-ends. It integrates three 16-bit sigma-delta ADCs, an LCD driver, and a hardware multiplier on a single die. The 8 KB Flash and 256 B RAM are sized for metering algorithms and calibration constants, not general-purpose multitasking. The 64-LQFP package (10x10 mm) carries 14 I/O lines plus SPI and UART connectivity for communication module interface.
What the 8.4 MHz clock and 3x16-bit ADC mean for the BOM
The 8.4 MHz CPU clock and three 16-bit sigma-delta ADCs sample voltage and current channels simultaneously. The 8 KB Flash holds metering firmware; 256 B RAM handles runtime variables.
Rated for -40 to 85 °C ambient, the MSP430FE423AIPM operates from 1.8 V to 3.6 V.
