Energy-measurement MCU with seven 24-bit sigma-delta converters
The MSP430F67791AIPEU: Its defining feature is the array of seven 24-bit sigma-delta ADCs, purpose-designed for polyphase energy metering, power-quality monitoring, and precision sensor conditioning. An internal oscillator keeps the BOM lean for metrology applications where an external crystal is optional.
Seven 24-bit sigma-delta ADCs — the metrology engine
The seven 24-bit sigma-delta converters are the reason this part exists. They enable simultaneous sampling of voltage and current on up to three phases plus neutral in a polyphase energy meter, delivering the harmonic content and phase information needed for active/reactive/apparent power calculations. The 24-bit resolution provides the dynamic range to measure both idle current and full-load draw without range switching. The 8x10-bit auxiliary ADC handles housekeeping tasks like temperature sensing or DC rail monitoring.
The 128-LQFP package (20x14 mm body) with 0.5 mm pitch is a standard footprint for mid-density MCUs; the exposed pad helps thermal dissipation when the sigma-delta converters and CPU run continuously.
