What this MSP430 variant brings to the bench
The distinguishing feature is the six 24-bit sigma-delta ADC channels, purpose-built for polyphase energy measurement, paired with an integrated LCD driver for direct display drive.
The sigma-delta ADC array — why this part exists
Six 24-bit sigma-delta converters are the headline feature. That many simultaneous high-resolution channels target three-phase plus neutral power metering with per-phase voltage and current sensing. The 8x10b SAR ADC handles auxiliary inputs like temperature or tamper detection. Most MSP430 derivatives carry one or two sigma-delta channels; six puts this part in a dedicated metrology tier, not a general-purpose MCU bin.
That means TI is still manufacturing it, no last-time-buy notice has been issued, and it remains a valid selection for new production designs. For a BOM line, there is no forced-migration pressure from the supplier side.
Package and temperature — layout reality
The 128-LQFP (20x14 mm body) is a fine-pitch QFP — 0.4 mm typical lead pitch. That is hand-solderable with a decent iron and magnification, but rework is cleaner with hot air.
Sourcing this order code
No LTB risk, no forced substitute — this is a straightforward BOM line to qualify for production.
