Peripherals and connectivity for a self-contained system
Beyond the ADCs, the peripheral set includes a brown-out detect and reset, DMA controller, LCD driver, PWM timer, and watchdog timer. Communication interfaces cover I²C, IrDA, LIN, SPI, and UART/USART, so the chip can talk to an external display, a wireless module, or a PLC over Modbus without extra level shifters. The 62 I/O pins in the 100-pin LQFP package give plenty of headroom for a keypad, status LEDs, and isolated pulse outputs. The internal oscillator eliminates the need for an external crystal in many applications, though one can be added if tighter timing is required.
