Poly-phase metering MCU with 24-bit sigma-delta front end
Its defining feature is the four 24-bit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters, purpose-designed for poly-phase energy metering, precision weigh scales, and industrial sensor conditioning where multiple high-resolution channels are needed simultaneously. Program memory is 512KB of Flash, backed by 16K x 8 of RAM — enough to hold a metering stack plus a communication protocol buffer without external memory.
Peripheral set for metering and HMI
The LCD driver supports segment-based glass displays directly, saving a separate driver IC in panel-meter or utility-meter designs. Connectivity covers I²C, IrDA, LINbus, SPI, and UART/USART, giving flexibility for AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) links or local sensor buses. With 62 I/O lines in the 100-LQFP package, there is headroom for a parallel LCD data bus, keypad matrix, and external FRAM or serial Flash. The brown-out detect and POR ensure deterministic startup in noisy industrial environments — no external supervisor required.
Operating from 1.8V to 3.6V, this MCU can run directly from a lithium cell or a 3.3V rail. The 8-channel 10-bit general-purpose ADC handles lower-precision auxiliary measurements (temperature sense, battery check) without loading the sigma-delta converters.
Lifecycle and sourcing
The base product number MSP430F6748 covers the full family, so pin-compatible Flash/RAM variants exist within the same 100-LQFP footprint for scaling production tiers.
