4x24-bit sigma-delta ADC — the design win
The four simultaneous 24-bit sigma-delta converters are the reason to pick this part over a general-purpose MSP430. Each channel handles independent voltage or current inputs with the oversampling and noise shaping needed for Class 0.2 / Class 0.5 energy measurement accuracy. The peripheral set includes brown-out detect, POR, DMA, PWM, WDT, and an LCD driver, so a single-chip meter design covers the analog measurement, display, and communication back to the host.
128-LQFP — routing the 90 I/O
The 128-LQFP package with a 20x14 mm body gives access to 90 I/O lines. That is enough to run a segment LCD, a keypad, several UART/SPI/I²C buses for the metrology data and a host interface, plus the sigma-delta ADC inputs.
Industrial temperature and active lifecycle
The lifecycle status is Active, meaning TI continues to manufacture it with no last-time-buy notice. For a production BOM that needs a metrology MCU with a guaranteed supply horizon, this is a straightforward qualification.
