Metering-class MCU with integrated sigma-delta front-end
This makes it a dedicated SoC for polyphase energy metering, power-quality monitoring, and industrial instrumentation where the MCU must sample multiple voltage/current channels and present results on a local display without external ADC or display driver ICs.
Peripherals and I/O — sizing the BOM around the integrated blocks
With 90 I/Os in a 128-LQFP (20x14 mm body), there is enough headroom to connect the sigma-delta inputs, LCD segment lines, and a UART or SPI for a comms module without a port expander. The brown-out detect and POR are on-chip, so the external reset supervisor can be omitted in cost-sensitive builds. The 4x24-bit sigma-delta converters are the headline analog block — they sample multiple phases directly, which is why this part replaces a separate ADC + MCU two-chip solution in polyphase meters. The 8x10-bit auxiliary ADC handles the non-critical analog inputs (temperature, tamper detect) without adding a second converter.
Sourcing and lifecycle — active part, no LTB pressure
For dual-sourcing resilience, the MSP430F6xx family includes pin-compatible density variants sharing the same 128-LQFP footprint — qualifying a second Flash/RAM tier now avoids a sole-source lock if the build forecast shifts.
