Obsolete — plan the BOM transition now
The MSP430F6745IPZR is officially listed as obsolete. That means TI has stopped production, and no further factory orders can be placed. For an existing design that already qualifies this MCU, the remaining supply is what independent distributors hold in inventory or can source from surplus channels. Any new design-in should target a current-production MSP430 derivative — the MSP430F6xx family includes several pin-compatible and software-compatible options with similar sigma-delta ADC peripherals, though the exact replacement depends on the metrology firmware and the required number of converter channels.
Peripheral set and connectivity
Beyond the sigma-delta converters, the device integrates a brown-out detect/reset circuit, DMA controller, LCD driver, POR, PWM, and watchdog timer. For serial communication it supports I²C, IrDA, LINbus, SPI, and UART/USART — enough to interface with an external metrology AFE, a communications module (e.g., PLC or RF), and a local display.
