Metering-focused 16-bit MCU with integrated sigma-delta converters
The 90 GPIO lines and internal oscillator make it a self-contained controller for polyphase energy metering, industrial instrumentation, and sensor conditioning applications.
The 25 MHz clock rate on the MSP430 CPUXV2 core provides enough throughput to run the 24-bit sigma-delta decimation filters and compute energy parameters in real time without an external DSP. Combined with the DMA and hardware multiplier, the core can handle simultaneous voltage/current channel processing while maintaining low active power draw — a key advantage for self-powered meters.
The 128-LQFP package (20x14 mm body) with 90 accessible I/O leaves room for a direct LCD segment connection and parallel sensor inputs without needing an external port expander.
Obsolete — sourcing strategy
We source verified, traceable inventory from independent distribution — each unit is inspected for date-code consistency, marking integrity, and packaging authenticity before shipment. For new designs or volume production, consider the MSP430F6745IPER (the tape-and-reel variant with the same die and package) if still available, or evaluate the MSP430F6779 series as a functional upgrade path.
