16-bit MCU with integrated metrology ADC and LCD drive
The Texas Instruments MSP430F6720AIPZ is a 16-bit MSP430 CPUXV2 microcontroller clocked at 25 MHz, with 16 KB Flash and 1 KB RAM. It carries two 24-bit sigma-delta ADCs and a segment LCD controller. The 100-LQFP package provides 72 I/O and serial interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, LIN, IrDA). Supply range is 1.8 V to 3.6 V, operating temperature −40°C to 85°C.
24-bit ADC — what it means for the BOM
The two 24-bit sigma-delta ADCs are the distinguishing feature of this MSP430F6xx variant. They allow direct connection of current and voltage sensors (shunts, CTs, resistive dividers) without an external analog front-end. For a single-phase energy meter or power-quality monitor, that removes a separate AFE IC and its support passives — a real BOM consolidation. The 10-bit auxiliary ADC handles the remaining general-purpose analog inputs.
