USB and serial connectivity — interface compatibility
The MSP430F6638IZQWR: The USB 2.0 full-speed peripheral is the headline interface — it answers the question of whether this part can talk to a host PC or a USB-to-serial bridge without an external PHY. The remaining serial interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, IrDA, LINbus) cover most industrial sensor and actuator protocols. The 74 general-purpose I/O pins, mapped to the 113-VFBGA package, give enough flexibility for a parallel LCD or a keypad matrix alongside the serial buses.
Industrial temperature range and supply voltage
Rated for -40 to 85°C ambient, this MCU is suited for factory-floor controllers, outdoor telecom equipment, and HVAC panels — not for under-hood or extended-temperature environments. The supply range of 1.8 V to 3.6 V allows single-cell Li-ion or two alkaline cells to power the device directly, which simplifies the power rail in battery-operated designs. The brown-out detect and POR peripherals ensure clean startup and reset behavior across the voltage range.
