What this MSP430 brings to a field-swap
The MSP430F6433IPZ: 16-bit MCU from the MSP430F6xx family, core clocked at 20 MHz. 128 KB Flash program memory and 10 KB RAM, 74 I/O, 12-bit ADC with 16 channels, integrated LCD driver, 100-LQFP package.
20 MHz core — what it buys you on site
20 MHz ceiling for the pipeline. Enough to keep a segmented LCD updated, sample all 16 ADC channels at a few kHz, and handle UART/SPI/I²C traffic without a scheduler fight.
Lifecycle reality — this is an EOL part
The MSP430F6433IPZ carries an EOL-hot lifecycle status. TI has issued a last-time-buy notice; the window for factory orders is closing. New designs should not target this exact order code.
Peripherals that matter for a retrofit
Brown-out detect and POR are built in — no external supervisor needed for basic reset. The 16-channel 12-bit ADC covers most analog inputs on a control panel. DMA offloads the CPU for LCD refresh or ADC buffer transfers. I²C, SPI, UART, and IrDA are all on the connectivity list; LINbus is there if you are tying into an automotive or industrial LIN segment. Watchdog timer is standard.
