Peripherals and connectivity set
The connectivity block covers I²C, IrDA, SPI, and UART/USART, so it can talk to digital sensors, serial displays, or a host processor over a simple two-wire bus.
Supply range and power rail design
The wide range means the same BOM can run from a coin cell or a regulated rail without a separate LDO — just watch the dropout margin if the rail sags below 1.8 V. The DMA and brown-out reset help maintain data integrity during brownout events common in battery-powered gear.
Listed as Active in production, so this is not a last-time-buy or NRND situation. No official second source is recorded, but the MSP430F5xx family includes several pin-compatible siblings with different Flash/RAM ratios; if the BOM needs dual-sourcing, a cross-reference check against the base product number MSP430F5239 is the first step.
