Core and memory for a mixed-signal control loop
The MSP430F5172IRSBT is a 16-bit microcontroller from the MSP430F5xx family, built around the MSP430 CPUXV2 core clocked at 25 MHz. The 32 KB of on-chip Flash and 2 KB of RAM provide enough code and data space for a sensor-fusion or motor-control loop that runs without external memory.
Peripheral set for a single-chip sensor node
The 11-channel 10-bit ADC samples analog inputs directly — a thermistor, a strain gauge, or a current-sense resistor on a motor phase can feed the control loop without an external converter. The DMA engine moves ADC results into RAM without CPU intervention, keeping the core free for the control algorithm. The 31 general-purpose I/O lines handle local switches, LEDs, and a small keypad matrix. On-chip brown-out detect and POR supervise the supply rail so the MCU boots cleanly after a battery swap or a brown-out event. The internal oscillator eliminates the external crystal for cost-sensitive builds.
Housed in a 40-WFQFN with an exposed pad (5x5 mm body), the MSP430F5172IRSBT requires a thermal-land pattern on the PCB to sink heat from the die. The surface-mount package is supplied in tape-and-reel or cut-tape options, making it compatible with standard pick-and-place lines.
