The MSP430F5151IRSBR is a 16-bit microcontroller from the MSP430F5xx series, built around the MSP430 CPUXV2 core running at 25 MHz.
Connectivity and on-chip peripherals
The part includes I2C, SPI, UART/USART, IrDA, and SCI interfaces — the usual set for talking to sensors, displays, or a host controller over a serial bus. The internal oscillator keeps the BOM simple; no external crystal is required for basic timing. On-chip peripherals include a brown-out detect/reset, DMA, POR, PWM, and a watchdog timer. The DMA engine moves data between peripherals and memory without CPU intervention, which matters when the 25 MHz core is busy with the main loop.
Industrial temperature and package
The 40-WQFN package (5x5 mm) with exposed pad keeps thermal resistance low — the pad should be soldered to a copper pour on the PCB for heat sinking. Surface-mount only, supplied in tape and reel or cut tape. The 0.5 mm pitch WQFN needs a decent solder stencil and a reflow profile that matches the package's moisture sensitivity level — standard for this class.
