16-bit MCU with integrated measurement front-end
The integrated LCD driver and peripherals — brown-out detect, POR, PWM, WDT — handle supervisory tasks without external glue logic. Rated for the industrial temperature range (-40°C to 85°C) and supplied over 1.8 V to 3.6 V, the MSP430F4784IPZR fits into outdoor utility meters, sub-metering gateways, and factory-floor data concentrators where the ambient can swing and the power rail may be a battery or a loosely regulated supply.
The four 16-bit sigma-delta converters are the headline feature on this part. They are designed for direct connection to current and voltage sensors in energy measurement applications — the modulator samples at a high oversampling rate and the digital filter delivers a 16-bit result without an external PGA or anti-aliasing filter on each channel. For a calibration technician, that means the reference accuracy and long-term drift of the internal voltage reference become the dominant error term; the converter itself will hold its linearity within tolerance if the reference stays stable.
