8 MHz 16-bit core with integrated LCD driver
It packs 116 KB of FLASH program memory plus 256 bytes of information memory for calibration constants, and 8K x 8 of RAM. The part integrates a segment LCD driver, DMA controller, brown-out detect, POR, PWM, and a 12-channel 12-bit ADC — a combination aimed at metering, handheld instruments, and industrial panels where the display and analog front-end live on the same die.
With 116 KB of FLASH, this device comfortably hosts a full application stack plus a bootloader for field updates. The extra 256-byte information memory is separate from the main array — use it for device serialization or trim values that survive a full erase. No wear-leveling is needed for typical metering firmware that writes infrequently, but if you are logging data to Flash, budget for sector erase cycles.
The internal oscillator means no external crystal is required for the core clock, though the connectivity block (I²C, IrDA, SCI, SPI, UART/USART) may still need a precision timebase for baud-rate accuracy.
The 100-pin LQFP (14x14 mm body) provides 80 general-purpose I/O pins and the LCD segment drive outputs — enough for a 4x40 or 8x32 segment display without external shift registers.
For new designs, this means standard distribution availability with no forced migration timeline. The base product number MSP430F4618 shares the same die and Flash/RAM configuration across the LQFP and TQFP package variants.
