Active lifecycle and memory headroom
The MSP430F46161IPZR: On-chip memory combines 92 KB of Flash with 4 KB of RAM. The 92 KB program store accommodates a full MSP430 firmware image including a real-time kernel and LCD display driver; the 4 KB RAM handles stack and small data buffers without external SRAM.
The integrated LCD controller drives segmented glass panels directly, eliminating the cost and board space of an external display driver IC. DMA moves data between peripherals and memory without CPU intervention, freeing the 8 MHz core for application code. Serial connectivity covers I2C, SPI, UART/USART, IrDA, and SCI — a single part can talk to I2C sensors, SPI flash, and a UART debug console over the same bus.
Package, supply, and temperature grade
Housed in a 100-LQFP package with a 14x14 mm body. The 0.50 mm pitch demands a 4-layer board for reliable fan-out of the inner rows; a 2-layer board will route only the perimeter pins. The internal oscillator starts from the supply rail without an external crystal, though the internal RC accuracy (±1% typical over temp) limits precision timing to baud-rate generation.
