What this MSP430 brings to a low-power BOM
At 8 MHz the core delivers roughly 8 MIPS. That is enough for real-time LCD updates, UART polling, and periodic ADC reads.
On-chip peripherals include a brown-out detect and reset circuit, power-on reset, PWM timer, and watchdog timer — all standard for unsupervised field operation. The SPI and UART/USART interfaces handle sensor communication or serial display updates. An internal oscillator keeps the BOM lean; no external crystal is required for basic operation, though one can be added for tighter timing.
