What the 8 MHz core and 3x16-bit ADC mean for the BOM
The MSP430F427IPM: The 8 MHz clock is adequate for the math-heavy digital-filter and energy-calculation loops in a metering application. The 3-channel 16-bit sigma-delta ADC resolves the voltage and current sense inputs directly, eliminating an external AFE or separate ADC.
NRND — plan your last-time buy
TI has marked the MSP430F427IPM as Not Recommended for New Designs (NRND). The part is still available for existing production but the end-of-life clock is running. If this MCU is in your BOM, secure a last-time-buy quantity or qualify a migration path to a current MSP430x4xx variant.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in a 64-LQFP (10x10 mm) with 14 general-purpose I/O, the part is surface-mount and rated for the industrial temperature range of -40 to 85 °C. Supply voltage spans 1.8 V to 3.6 V.
