Industrial temperature and supply range
Rated for -40 to 85 °C ambient, this MCU handles outdoor telecom cabinets, factory-floor sensor nodes, and engine-bay-adjacent electronics without a commercial-grade compromise. The 1.8 V to 3.6 V supply range lets it run directly from two alkaline cells or a single Li-ion — no extra regulator needed for the core.
NRND — what it means for your BOM
TI has marked the MSP430F423IPM as NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs). That means it is still available for existing production runs but is not the part to spec into a new board. If you are supporting a legacy meter or medical instrument that already uses this MCU, we can source it to order against an RFQ through independent distribution — availability and current pricing confirmed at quote time. For a new design, look at the active MSP430FRxx FRAM series or the MSP430F5xx family for a pin-compatible path forward.
On-chip LCD driver and analog — why it matters
The integrated LCD controller drives segment displays directly, saving a separate driver IC and the associated board space. The 3-channel 16-bit sigma-delta ADC gives enough resolution for weigh-scale load cells, thermocouple linearization, or gas-sensor readouts without an external converter. Brown-out detect and POR are built in, so the supply-sequencing logic on the PCB can stay simple.
