16 MHz core — what it means for the control loop
At 16 MHz, this MCU delivers enough throughput for real-time sensor acquisition, PID control loops, and communication protocol handling without external oscillators — the internal oscillator is already on-chip. The 16-bit data path and 60 KB Flash are sized for mid-complexity firmware; if your application needs more than 2 KB of RAM for buffering, you will be looking at the MSP430F5xx series with larger SRAM options. For designs that already run on the MSP430F2xx family, this is a drop-in pin-compatible upgrade path for temperature range.
Lifecycle and sourcing
This part is listed as Active in production. The base product number MSP430F249 covers the commercial-temperature siblings; the MPMEP suffix is the military-temperature version.
