Active 16-bit MCU for low-power industrial control
At 16 MHz the CPU16 can execute a 16-bit multiply in a single cycle, which is enough headroom for a PID loop at a few kilohertz or a Modbus RTU poll-response cycle without a wait-state penalty from the Flash. The 512-byte RAM is tight — plan the stack and global data layout before committing the firmware, because the real-time buffer budget lives in those 512 x 8 bytes.

The 32 I/O lines are available on the perimeter pads, so routing to a two-layer board is feasible with careful pin assignment.
Supply range and power rail design
Brown-out reset is on-chip, so an external supervisor is optional unless you need a tighter threshold.
