16 MHz CPU and memory fit for control-loop applications
The MSP430F2254IDAR: The 16-bit MSP430 CPU16 core runs at 16 MHz, delivering the throughput needed for sensor polling, PID loops, and communication protocol handling without external clock sources — the internal oscillator is on-chip. Program memory is 16 KB of Flash (16 K × 8 plus 256 bytes), with 512 bytes of RAM. This memory map suits firmware images for motor control, data logging, or human-machine interface panels where the code footprint fits within 16 KB and the working set stays under 512 bytes.
On-chip peripherals include brown-out reset (BOR), power-on reset (POR), a PWM timer, and a watchdog timer (WDT) — these reduce external component count for supervisory functions. The 12-channel 10-bit ADC (A/D 12×10b) captures analog sensor inputs directly, eliminating the need for an external converter in many temperature, pressure, or current-sense applications. 32 general-purpose I/O pins provide enough headroom for a keypad matrix, LED indicators, and control lines alongside the serial interfaces.
