16 MHz core, 8 KB flash, 512 B RAM — the firmware budget
The MSP430F2132IPW is a 16-bit microcontroller from the MSP430F2xx series, built around the MSP430 CPU16 core running at 16 MHz. The 8 KB on-chip flash (8K x 8 plus 256 B for calibration or info storage) and 512 x 8 RAM set the firmware ceiling — the bootloader, interrupt vectors, and any TI-supplied peripheral library consume a slice of that 8 KB before the application starts. For a sensor hub or simple control loop, the 512 B RAM is enough for a few dozen variables and a small stack; anything larger needs external RAM or a higher-memory sibling.
On-chip peripherals: ADC, serial interfaces, PWM
The MSP430F2132IPW integrates an 8-channel 10-bit ADC (A/D 8x10b), a PWM timer, and a watchdog timer, plus brown-out detect and POR. The 24 I/O pins (out of 28 total package pins) give the board designer headroom for a keypad, LED indicators, and a few external interrupts without needing a port expander.
