16 MHz, 4 KB Flash — what fits in this memory budget
The 256-byte RAM is tight: if your application needs a large look-up table or a multi-frame serial buffer, you will run out. Plan for register-based or Flash-constant data wherever possible. With 16 I/O lines in a 24-VFQFN Exposed Pad package, it suits space-constrained boards.
The MSP430F2xx series has been in volume production for years, and TI continues to support it with development tools and documentation.
Package and footprint — 24-VQFN with exposed pad
The 24-VFQFN Exposed Pad package (4x4 mm body) requires a via-stitched ground pad on the PCB for thermal relief and electrical grounding. The pad is internally connected to VSS — do not route signals underneath it. Surface-mount assembly is straightforward with standard reflow profiles.
