It eliminates the need for a boost or LDO when running from two AA cells (down to ~2.0 V at end-of-life) or a single Li-ion cell (3.0 V to 4.2 V, with the MCU still operational down to 1.8 V during deep discharge). The brown-out detect/reset (BOR) on-chip ensures the core resets cleanly if the supply dips below the safe operating threshold — no external supervisor IC needed. For a fixed 3.3 V rail, the part draws its rated quiescent current without any dropout penalty.
