1 KB Flash and 128 bytes RAM — sizing the firmware budget
The MSP430F2002IN is a 16-bit MCU from TI's MSP430F2xx ultra-low-power family, built around the MSP430 CPU16 core. That memory footprint is tight — it fits a single sensor-reading loop, a simple state machine, or a configuration controller, but not a real-time OS or a protocol stack. The 1 KB Flash (1K x 8 plus 256 bytes) and 128 x 8 RAM mean every byte of code and variable must be budgeted; a C compiler's default library can overflow it quickly. The part includes a 10-bit ADC with 8 channels, I²C and SPI connectivity, and 10 general-purpose I/O lines.
Through-hole DIP — prototyping and low-volume fit
Housed in a 14-pin DIP package (0.300" body, 7.62 mm pitch), the MSP430F2002IN is a through-hole device. That makes it breadboard-friendly for evaluation and suited to low-volume or manually assembled boards where rework is common. The 14-PDIP supplier package mates with standard DIP sockets or can be soldered directly into plated through-holes. For higher-volume production, TI offers surface-mount variants in the same MSP430F2xx family, but this order code is specifically the DIP option.
