16 KB Flash — sizing the firmware budget
The 16 KB Flash (16K x 8 plus 256 B) is the program-storage ceiling. For a typical application — say, a temperature transmitter reading the ADC, running a PID loop, and outputting a 4-20 mA DAC signal with Modbus RTU over UART — this is adequate. It does not leave room for a full RTOS or a TCP/IP stack; the firmware stays bare-metal or uses a lightweight scheduler. The 512-byte RAM is the data memory limit, so look-up tables and large buffers need to live in Flash or be streamed.
Peripherals and I/O count
With 48 I/O lines in a 64-LQFP package, there is enough pinout for a parallel LCD, a keypad matrix, or a bank of optocoupled inputs alongside the serial interfaces.
