Active 16-bit MCU with 8 MHz ceiling and 32 KB flash
The MSP430F147IPM: On-chip memory is 32 KB of flash for firmware and 1 KB of RAM for runtime data. The 32 KB flash budget accommodates a moderate application stack — a typical sensor-fusion or motor-control firmware with a small RTOS fits within that footprint. The 1 KB RAM is the tighter constraint; any data buffer exceeding that size forces external SRAM or a part with more SRAM.
48 I/O, 8-channel 12-bit ADC, and serial connectivity
With 48 general-purpose I/O pins, the MSP430F147IPM can drive a parallel LCD interface, read a bank of DIP switches, and still leave pins for serial buses. The 8-channel 12-bit ADC samples analog signals at up to 200 ksps — adequate for temperature, pressure, or current-sense inputs in a slow-loop process controller. Serial connectivity includes SPI and UART/USART modules. SPI handles high-speed peripheral communication (flash memory, DACs, RF transceivers) while the UART supports RS-232 or RS-485 links to a host PLC or gateway. The POR, PWM, and WDT peripherals cover basic system supervision and waveform generation without external timer ICs.
