LCD driver with a 3V to 10V supply — what that means for 5V logic compatibility
The MM5453V/NOPB is a serial-interface LCD driver from National Semiconductor's COPS™ family, designed to drive a 4.5-digit display with 7-segment + decimal point, alphanumeric, and bar-graph configurations. Its supply range of 3V to 10V covers 5V logic rails comfortably, so a 5V microcontroller can drive the serial interface directly without level shifting — the logic input thresholds track the supply, and at Vdd = 5V the part accepts standard 5V CMOS/TTL levels. The wide supply tolerance also suits battery-powered instruments where the rail droops from 6V down to 3V over discharge.
44-PLCC (J-Lead) — footprint and thermal reality
The part comes in a 44-lead PLCC with J-leads, body size 16.58 mm × 16.58 mm per the supplier device package. Surface-mount assembly is standard, but the J-lead form factor means the solder joint is under the package body — inspect with an angled scope or X-ray after reflow.
