1.5A switch, buck or boost, 8-SON package
The MC34063ADRJR is a 1.5A switch-current adjustable regulator from Texas Instruments that can be configured as a step-down (buck) or step-up (boost) converter, covering positive or negative output rails from a single 3V to 40V input supply. Switching at 100 kHz, the part keeps the external inductor and capacitor values moderate but not tiny — expect a 47–100 µH inductor and a 100–470 µF output cap for a typical 5V/1A buck design. The 8-WDFN exposed pad package (8-SON 4x4 mm) helps pull heat from the switch junction into the PCB copper pour, which matters when the switch is running near its 1.5A ceiling.
40V input ceiling, 1.25V adjustable output floor
Input range spans 3V minimum to 40V maximum, so the part can regulate from a 5V USB rail or a 24V industrial bus without an extra pre-regulator. Output is adjustable from a 1.25V reference up to 40V (switch rating), covering common logic rails (3.3V, 5V, 12V) and higher voltages for relays or solenoids. No synchronous rectifier is built in — the external Schottky diode carries the catch current, so its forward drop and thermal rating need to be factored into the efficiency and PCB layout.
Active production, commercial temperature grade
Available in Tape & Reel (TR) and Cut Tape (CT) options for the 8-WDFN package, supporting both prototype and production-volume assembly.
