Buck or boost in one 8-SOIC
It uses an internal 1.5 A switch rated for up to 40 V, switching at 100 kHz.
Input rail and output range
The input voltage range spans 3 V to 40 V, covering 5 V and 12 V industrial rails as well as automotive battery voltages during cranking and load dump. The adjustable output can be set anywhere from 1.25 V up to 40 V, with positive or negative output configuration.
Switching frequency and inductor choice
At 100 kHz, the switching frequency is on the low side by modern standards. That means the inductor needs a higher inductance value — typically 100 µH to 330 µH for a 5 V output at 500 mA — and the core must handle the DC bias without saturating. The trade-off is lower switching losses and simpler layout compared to a 500 kHz part.
It is not specified for extended temperature beyond 85°C, so a heatsink or forced air may be needed if the junction temperature exceeds the limit under full load.
