1.5A switch, buck or boost — the topology you choose
The MC33063ADR is a 1.5A (switch) DC-DC converter that handles both step-up (boost) and step-down (buck) topologies from a single 8-SOIC package. Input range is 3V to 40V, output is adjustable from 1.25V up to 40V.
100 kHz switching — filter size vs. EMI tradeoff
Fixed 100 kHz switching frequency means the inductor and output capacitor are larger than what a 500 kHz+ part would need, but conducted and radiated EMI are easier to manage — no need for spread-spectrum or snubbers in many layouts. The 1.5A switch current rating is the peak limit through the internal transistor; the actual output current depends on the topology, input/output voltage ratio, and inductor ripple. At 12V in, 5V out, expect around 800 mA continuous before the switch current limit engages.
Marked as Active on the lifecycle record, with ROHS3 compliance. No NRND or EOL notice — this part is still a valid BOM entry for new and existing designs. Sourced through independent distribution; availability and current pricing confirmed at RFQ.
Industrial temp grade and 8-SOIC footprint
The output configuration can be positive or negative, which means the same part works for inverting buck-boost (negative rail generation) without an external charge pump.
