Product details

RS-232 transceiver for mixed-voltage serial links

At 250 kbps the transceiver comfortably supports 115.2 kbps and 230.4 kbps UART rates with margin. If your application requires 1 Mbps or higher (e.g., some industrial fieldbus adapters), this part won't close timing — look at a higher-speed RS-232 transceiver from the same family. For typical terminal or sensor polling at 9600 to 115200 baud, the 250 kbps ceiling is more than adequate.

The charge-pump architecture generates the RS-232 voltage levels internally from the single supply, so no ±12 V rails are needed. Dropout margin at the low end is about 300 mV below 3.3 V — a 3.0 V rail still holds regulation.

The 16-TSSOP package is compact enough for space-constrained PCBs but still hand-solderable for rework.

Frequently asked questions

Is MAX3232IPWRG4 equivalent to MAX3232?

The MAX3232IPWRG4 is a specific variant of the base MAX3232 family — the IPWRG4 suffix indicates the 16-TSSOP package on Tape & Reel.
