What this RS-232 transceiver delivers
It pushes data at 500 kbps across a supply range of 3V to 5.5V, so it works on both 3.3V and 5V serial rails without a separate level translator. The 500 mV receiver hysteresis gives noise margin on long cable runs — useful when the RS-232 line picks up crosstalk from adjacent traces or a motor drive.
Supply voltage and temperature range — where it fits
It belongs in office equipment, point-of-sale terminals, and indoor instrumentation — not in an engine bay or outdoor telecom cabinet where the ambient can hit 85°C. The 3V to 5.5V supply covers the common logic rails. If your BOM runs on 3.3V, this transceiver connects directly; if you need 5V-tolerant I/O, the supply range handles that too.

Housed in a 20-TSSOP (4.40 mm width), surface-mount. The 0.65 mm pitch is manageable with a standard soldering profile; no special rework tooling needed.
