The MAX232ID: Full-duplex RS-232 transceiver with two drivers and two receivers — enough for a standard serial port with hardware handshaking (RTS/CTS). The 120 Kbps data rate covers the legacy 115.2 Kbps ceiling and then some; it is not a high-speed part, but it is the right fit for industrial control panels, PLC programming ports, and embedded debug UARTs where the bus runs at 9.6–115.2 Kbps.
