Active RS232 transceiver in the wide-body SOIC-16
It integrates two drivers and two receivers, handling the voltage-level conversion between a 5V UART and RS232 signal levels. The data rate is specified at 120Kbps, and the receiver hysteresis is 500 mV for noise rejection on the line.
5V-only supply — plan for level translation if mixing 3.3V logic
It does not accept a 3.3V supply, and the RS232 driver outputs swing to the supply rails. If the connected UART is 3.3V-logic, the receiver outputs (TTL side) will also swing to 5V — an external level shifter or resistive divider may be needed to avoid overvoltage on the 3.3V side. The 120Kbps data rate is adequate for legacy serial protocols (9600 baud, 115200 baud) but not for high-speed RS232 applications.
