80 dB PSRR on a 1.5 A rail
The LP38842T-1.5/NOPB is a fixed-output LDO delivering 1.5 V at up to 1.5 A, with a power-supply rejection ratio of 80 dB at 120 Hz rolling to 65 dB at 1 kHz. That PSRR floor means the output stays clean enough to feed sensitive analog front-ends even when the input bus carries switching ripple from a preceding DC-DC converter.
Dropout and quiescent current — the real BOM-fit numbers
Quiescent current is 30 µA typical, which keeps the regulator's own draw negligible in always-on or battery-backed sections of the board. Operating temperature spans -40°C to 125°C, qualifying the part for industrial enclosures, engine-bay electronics, or outdoor telecom cabinets where ambient heat is a given.
Through-hole power dissipation and protection
The TO-220-5 package (supplier device package TO-220-5) lets the die dissipate heat through the metal tab into a heatsink or PCB copper plane — essential for a 1.5 A LDO when the input-to-output differential is more than a few hundred millivolts. On-chip protection includes over-current, over-temperature, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO), so the regulator survives a shorted load or a thermal transient without external clamp diodes. An Enable pin (active-high) allows the system microcontroller to sequence the rail on and off, cutting the 40 mA maximum supply current when the load is idle.
