3A LDO with PSRR shaped for analog and RF rails
The LP3883ESX-1.2 is a fixed 1.2V output LDO from Texas Instruments, delivering up to 3A continuous current from a 5.5V max input rail. Its PSRR profile — 80 dB at 120 Hz rolling to 65 dB at 1 kHz — means it attenuates 50/60 Hz mains ripple and the lower switching harmonics of a preceding DC-DC converter, making it a candidate for post-regulation on sensitive analog or RF supply rails where a switching regulator's ripple would couple into the signal path. The 0.42 V maximum dropout at 3 A sets the headroom requirement: the input rail must stay at least 420 mV above 1.2 V across the full load range to maintain regulation. Below that margin the output falls out of spec, which matters when the upstream rail is a battery near its end-of-discharge or a tightly trimmed intermediate bus.
Package, thermal path, and protection
The DDPAK/TO-263-5 package (also known as TO-263-6 with 5 leads plus tab) exposes the die paddle on the underside — the primary heat path is through the tab to the PCB copper plane. Built-in over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection means the LDO handles output faults without an external supervisor or crowbar circuit. The enable pin (Control Features: Enable) allows the rail to be sequenced — the pin can be driven by a GPIO or a power-good signal from another regulator to control power-up order.
Active lifecycle and compliance note
It is RoHS non-compliant per the supplier declaration, which is a flag for BOMs that require EU RoHS or REACH compliance; verify the exemption or alternative before committing to a production run.
