SOIC-8 comparator with open-drain output
The LMC7221BIM/NOPB is a single general-purpose comparator from Texas Instruments in an 8-SOIC package with an open-drain output stage.
Supply range and quiescent budget
Quiescent current maxes at 14 µA, so the comparator's own draw is negligible in battery-powered or always-on sensing circuits.
Speed and precision for threshold detection
Propagation delay is 10 µs maximum — fast enough for overvoltage/undervoltage monitoring, zero-crossing detection at line frequencies, or slow sensor thresholds, but not for high-speed PWM or RF envelope detection where sub-microsecond comparators are needed. Common-mode rejection is 75 dB typical, power-supply rejection is 80 dB typical, meaning the threshold stays stable even when the supply rail droops or the input common-mode voltage shifts.
The 8-SOIC footprint is a standard 3.90 mm-wide body with 1.27 mm pin pitch, so it drops into a two-layer PCB without fan-out issues. The open-drain output allows wired-OR connections for fault-summary signals across multiple comparators.
