What this part does — and where it fits
The Texas Instruments LM96163CISD/NOPB is a digital temperature sensor with integrated fan-control logic, built on the PowerWise and TruTherm platforms. It monitors its own die temperature and a remote diode (typically a CPU, GPU, or FPGA on-die sensor) via a sigma-delta ADC, comparator, and register bank. The SMBus interface reports readings and accepts control commands. The on-chip tachometer counts fan tach pulses, and the output alarm and fan-drive pins allow closed-loop thermal management without a separate microcontroller.
