Digital temp sensor for multi-point thermal monitoring
The Texas Instruments LM95231BIMM-1 is a TruTherm series digital temperature sensor that monitors both its own local die and one remote diode-connected transistor, outputting readings over an SMBus interface. Local resolution is 9 bits; the remote channel resolves 12 bits, giving finer granularity for the external sense point — useful when tracking a CPU or GPU die that heats faster than the board ambient.
Supply, temperature range, and accuracy — the fit check
Operating temperature range 0°C to 125°C covers most commercial and industrial ambient conditions, though the local sensing range is limited to 0°C to 85°C per the datasheet condition. Accuracy is listed as ±3°C highest (lowest) — this is the uncalibrated tolerance; for tighter margins the system can offset-correct in firmware if the remote diode's ideality factor is known.
Package and board integration
Mounting is surface mount, and the package is supplied in Bulk — no reel or tape quantities, so plan for tube or tray handling at the pick-and-place stage.
RoHS status is non-compliant — this is a legacy lead-bearing finish. Verify the assembly's exemption status or whether a lead-free alternate (e.g. the LM95231BIMMX-1 or an updated TruTherm variant) is acceptable before committing the BOM line.
